What is LSAT? What are the best LSAT prep books?

LSAT stands for Law School Admission Test which is designed to measure the skills that are required in the success of law school. Its was started in the year 1948. LSAT is administrated by the LSAC [ Law School Admission Council] for the prospective law school candidates. LSAT is designed to assess the reading comprehension, logical and verbal reasoning proficiencies. It is a paper and a pencil test conducted all across the country by the Law School Admission Council [LSAC]. The duration of this test is 35minutes for each of the 6 sections, for a total of 3 hours and 30 minutes (excluding breaks). The test consists of the sections of multiple choice questions (MCQ). Four of the five sections contribute to the test taker’s score. These sections include Reading Comprehension, one Analytic Reasoning section, and two Logical Reasoning sections. The unscored section, commonly referred as the writing or the variable section, typically is used to pretest the new test questions or to prerequire new test forms. The placement of this section will vary. Identification of the unscored section is not available until you receive your score report.

The current form of exam is used since 1991. There are six sections

-four scored MCQ’S

-an unscored experimental section

-an unscored writing section

A 35 minute, unscored writing sample is administered at the end of the test. Copies of your writing sample are sent to all the law schools to which you apply. To score good in LSAT one needs best LSAT prep books.


The grade range varies from 120 to 180. Raw scores are converted to scaled score with the high of 180 and a low of 120, medium of 150.
