IRA SINGHAL 2015 IAS topper PROVED HER DISABILITY WAS NOT AN EXCUSE
Assistant Collector, Government of Delhi
All India topper in CSE
Ira Singhal 2015 IAS topper success , to the layman would seem a miracle. As there is a saying goes, God help those who help themselves. The 30 year old Ira Singhal became an inspiration for those aspiring to be IAS officers who think that because of something they cannot achieve their goals. She being physically disabled suffering from scoliosis or the curvature of spine made her parents proud by as she cleared the examination not once but twice.
Back in 2010, when she passed the Indian Revenue Service Examination (IRS) it was not enough for the authorities as they cited “inability to push, pull and lift”. She was refused to get a posting as she suffers from scoliosis. Despite her disability her results left the entire nation spell bound. But her rejection did not deter her at all, it motivated her to attempt the examination again.
Ira’s success is a story of her acute struggle as she has never allowed her disability to stand in her path because she knew that this rule can not stop her from achieving what she has already achieved. She filed a case in Central Administrative Service and after 4 years of patience she won the case and finally given a post.
Additionally, to confer honour upon this braveheart, the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot suggested making Ira Singhal the brand ambassador for the initiatives and schemes of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
Her courage and determination has proved that no one can stop you from achieving what is meant for you, all it requires is just the hard-work and perseverance.
